Robert Irwin RED DRAWING WHITE DRAWING BLACK DRAWING
Friday afternoon in Chelsea. Spring like day. At Barbara Gladstone an artist performs Beethoveen. Young woman with short brown hair stays inside the piano and is moving around with the piano from room to room. Cascades of sound and then an empty clicks, when she hits keys without strings.
On the opposite side of the street from Gagosian (closed for installation) a new construction side. It used to be a car wash and a garage. Smell of the gas in the warm days. Shining puddles of oil on the pavement concrete.
I stopped at PaceWildstein gallery to see Robert Irwin new work. White fluorescent lights on the panels from floor to ceiling have life on its own. The light pattern is magical. There is also a mirror in which you can see the pattern from different angle. The second installation of red lights its more darker and more mysterious. I am fascinated by Irwin work. I remember his exhibition in DIA, maybe 10 years ago,- an amazing maze built from lights.
Then I walked 10th Avenue down to 14 St. The sun was going down. The sky was composition of constantly moving different shadows of dark blue.
